Please start a new thread to submit your attempts.

The format for laying out your submission could be something like this:

claim made by Zeitgeist
text _title_ where it is claimed or implied.
what was literally said or implied.
_link_s would be appreciated.

remember to source texts written before common era.

This was posted on the original site. I made sure to copy it for reposting here.

Hi,

I listen to Chris’ show a lot and have mailed him a couple of times before regarding certain things. Anyhoo here’s a quick attempt at this challenge. Not too sure if it covers your super stringent demands or not but here goes. I had this posted on a board Chris left it, in html but nobody responded so sorry if the html confuses the writing. The _link_s should be clearly seen even still.

Borrowed? gives a nice run down and explanation of the subject and a couple of checkable references.

Here’s a good site I found that critiques Kersey Graves. The author lists various and reliable sources for his argument and Graves’ and seems to be very thorough.

Here’s a quote..”Although I have not exhaustively investigated this matter, I have confirmed only two real “resurrected” deities with some uncanny similarity to Jesus which are actually reported before Christian times, Zalmoxis and Inanna, neither of which is mentioned by Graves or John G. Jackson (another Gravesian author–though both mention Tammuz, for whom Inanna was mistaken in their day).”

Anacalypsis is a book from 1863 and if you don’t know much about it, then I guess wikipedia isn’t such a bad place to start for extra _link_s and sources.

The Hindu Pantheon contains the stories of Krishna.

Iao Of Nepaul, or Jao. Referenced by Georgius

“With respect to the crucifixion of this ancient Savior, we have this very definite and specific testimony that “he was crucified on a tree in Nepaul.” (See Georgius, p. 202.) The name of this incarnate God and oriental Savior occurs frequently in the holy bibles and sacred books of other countries. Some suppose that Iao (often spelt Jao) is the root of the name of the Jewish God Jehovah.”

1st, the only resource mentioned is the writings of Georgius, and one sentence at that. But who is Georgius?? Can’t find anything really. Perhaps more obscure writings that only a “select few” could be privy to?

What I found on Iao was just as bad. Perhaps yet another buddha. What I could find was this regarding Greek creation myths (and no crucifixion sequence):

“Plato, in his dialogue Timaeus, describes a creation myth involving a being called the demiurge. The term refers in some belief systems to a deity responsible for the creation of the physical universe and the physical aspect of humanity. It occurs in a number of different religious and philosophical systems, most notably Platonism and Gnosticism. The precise nature and character of the Demiurge however varies considerably from system to system, being the benign architect of matter in some, to the personification of evil in others. Frequently, alternative _title_s are used for the Demiurge in these systems, including Yaldabaoth, Yao or Iao, Ialdabaoth and several other variants, such as Ptahil, used in Mandaeanism.”

And this, with regard to Celtic gods:

“Daniels also points out that the Celtic name for the Deity was IAO, pronounced, “Yah-o, ” which is virtually identical to the Hebrew name for God, “Yah” or “Yahu.” In early alphabets, letters represented ideas. In Hebrew, aleph, the first letter, stood for an ox; bet symbolized a house, gimel was a camel, dalet a door, and so on. Similarly, in Celtic the letter “I” stood for ‘the future.’ “A” represented ‘the present’, and “O” stood for ‘the past’.(ibid., pp.16-17) Thus, the Druidic name for God, “IAO, ” literally meant “the Everliving, “.

——————————————————————–

I have noticed from going through these _link_s and lots of others that one of the main themes is this..

“To retain their following, Christianity is _base_d on unchangeable dogmas which disciples must accept to the exclusion of all knowledge adverse to their own creed. Whenever they are able they actually destroy contrary evidence for fear of rivalry. Then they magnify their own religion to a unique position above all others.

The earlier Christian saints, having determined like Paul, to know only Jesus Christ and him crucified, made stern efforts to obliterate from the page of history facts damaging to their case.

A report on the Hindu religion, made out by a deputation from the British Parliament, sent to India to examine their sacred books and monuments, was left in the hands of a Christian bishop at Calcutta, with instructions to forward it to England. On its arrival in London, it was so horribly mutilated as to be scarcely recognisable. The account of the crucifixion was gone. The inference is patent.

The disciples of the Christian faith have burnt books, blotted out passages and bowdlerised testaments which suggested the opposite of their belief. Not only that, they have demolished monuments showing crucifixions of previous atoning gods so that they are now unknown. Hence, the disbelief of Christians when other cases are mentioned.”

So to me it boils down to one’s own interpretation. Just because every God mentioned doesn’t have precisely the same story as Jesus but some doesn’t mean they weren’t borrowed. New Religions and churches are created everyday and people lap them up. The same thing happened 2000 years ago when The followers of Isis (Babylonians), Ra (Egyptians) and El (Hebrews) combined their reiligions and formed IsRaEl and Christianity was born. The money spinners and power mongers were tired of re inventing their Gods, so they went all out and joined forces. Such a combination and widespread influence sustained this religion to the present day
